Staying in control doesn't mean that you have to be a dictator in the classroom, but it does mean that students will stop and listen to you when you get their attention.You can make a game out of playing and then stopping once you give a signal, such as clapping your hands three times, ringing a bell, putting your hand on your head, or something similar. Remember to reward students when they stop and listen to you. Verbally praising them as a class or singling out students as examples helps greatly.
